Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. The full amount claimed, £I,OOO general damages, and £SB 19s Od special damages, was today awarded by a jury to George Hunter Smart, a plumber, of Wellington, in his action in the Supreme Court against Devina Elsie Aitken, owner, and John Aitken, driver, of a motor-lorry involved in a collision with plaintiff’s car. The accident occurred on December 22, and as a result Smart lost an eye. Counsel for defendants intimated that he would consider moving for a new trial on the grounds that the damages awarded were excessive.
