MAJESTIC
“DOUBLE CROSS ROADS” Brought to the all talking screen by a brilliant cast, “Double Cross Roads,” Fox Movietone emotional drama, is delighting Majestic Theatre audiences. It abounds in thrills and dramatic action and the story is one of unusual quality. Robert Ames, who supported Gloria Swanson in “The Trespasser,” portrays the leading role and Lila Lee, beloved of the films, appears in the leading feminine role.
The story deals with a youthful crook, who. on being released from prison, is determined to go straight. He finds work and romance in the country. The girl with whom he falls in love aids him in realising his desire, but happiness does not come until they have been through the fires of menacing influence.
Ames makes an ideal lover and his acting is convincing as well as intelligent. Only a real artist possesses the power of expression he gives to his characterisation. Miss Lee never fails to give a pleasing performance. Her emotional work is on a par with anything seen and heard on the screen since it began to talk.
The Majestic’s programme includes a number of bright supporting features. There is a Universal Newspaper News, songs by Dorothy Whitmore, scenes of Kingsford Smith’s arrival in New York, and a comedy, “Steaming Up,” by the inimitable Clark and McCullough.
