40,000 TENNIS PLAYERS
number of young people who play each year in organised tennis is still increasing, according to the annual report published by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. In 1913 the total number of registered players was 10,584 and by 1926 it had risen to 23,381. During the four years that have intervened since then there has been a further increase, so that at the beginning of the present season the number of registered players in New Zealand has reached the fine total of 28,690. As there are a large number of unregistered clubs and players, besides a considerable number of players who use private courts, especially in the country districts, it will probably be quite right to estimate that there are close on' 40,000 people—young and old — who play tennis regularly in the Dominion, many of them all the year round.
