WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP NEARS END MISS HORTON BEATS MISS CULLING After a comfortable victory in the second round of the women’s golf championship yesterday morning, Miss Culling, last year’s champion, was eliminated in the semifinal, held later, when Miss K. Horton played great golf for an easy win. Neither of the semi-finals was particularly hard-fought. Mrs. Hosking had little difficulty in beating Mrs. Deigliton, though Mrs. Deighton made a good recovery during the 11th and 12th: holes, to draw all-square after being two down at the turn. The next two holes were squared. Mrs. Hosking won the 15th, 16th and 17th, the match finishing there. Miss Horton was four up at the sixth in her semi-final with Miss Culling. She lost the next two holes and was two up at the turn. The 10th was halved. A birdie two at the lltli left Miss Horton three up. She won the 14th and 15th, and with threm the match. The final between Miss Horton and Mrs. Hoskins was set down for this afternoon. Following are the results in the semi-finals: Mrs. Hosking beat Mrs. Deighton,. 3 and 1. Miss Horton beat Miss Culling, 5 and 3. The best cards handed in for the medal match play yesterday were: Seniors.—Mrs. Deighton. 80, 7 —73; Miss Macfarlane, 84, 10—74; Miss E. Mahoney, 94, 17 —77; Miss M. Miller, 95, 17 —78; Mrs. J. Wilson. 89, 11—78; Mrs. Abbott, 92, 13—79; Mrs. F. 11. Brown, 96, 17—79. Juniors. —Mrs. Ferguson, 95, 21 —74; Miss M. Cooke, 95, 19—76; Mrs. Jerratt, 103, 26 —77; Miss K. Fouhy, 99, 22—77; Miss L. Roberton, 96. 19—77; Mrs. Lovett, 101, 23—78; Miss R. Wilson, 97, 19—78; Miss M. Fouhy, 102, 23—79. The play-off- in the previous day’s bogey match resulted in a win for Miss K. Horton. The tie in the previous day’s putting competition was also played off. Mrs. Rainger was the winner.
