CONCERT AT EPSOM
INFIRMARY INMATES ARE ENTERTAINED Under the auspices of the Onehunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, the inmates of the Epsom Infirmary were entertained last evening by a concert organised by Mr. F. Andrew, of Papatoetoe. A varied programme consisting of instrumental selections, community singifig and vocal items earned the hearty applause of the large audience, and at the conclusion of the entertainment a vote of thanks, proposed by Mr. R. Foster, was enthusiastically carried. The following artists contributed to the evening’s enjoyment:—Miss Myra Monk, Messrs. L. Honeycombe, Claude Suisted and F. Wood. Mr. R. A. Archibald played selections on the bagpipes and Mr. Johnstone on the trumpet. Mr. Claude Suisted and Mrs. B. Andrew led the community singing, while Mrs. Suisted and Miss Blackburn played the accompaniments. TAKAPUNA BAZAAR GRAMMAR SCHOOL EFFORT The bazaar in aid of the Assembly Hall and gymnasium building fund for the Takapuna Grammar School was opened at the school yesterday afternoon and is being continued this afternoon and evening. The attractions and goods are many. The women’s committee has been undertaking the work of securing goods for the stalls for some months, with the assistance of the pupils. Mrs. C. M. Littlejohn is the president of the committee. The function was opened by Professor A. P. W. Thomas, who wished every success to the organisers, who had worked hard in such a worthy cause. A school /lance band provided excellent music in the “ballroom.” In the “theatre” a play entitled “The Imaginary Invalid” was cleverly interpreted by pupils. Then there were the golf course, the picture palace, the ping-pong room and the “bar.” A great crowd attended the fair yesterday and it seems to be a great success judging by today’s attendance. The stallholders were as follow: Produce, Mrs. G. Nicks and Mrs. Mowbray, assisted by Mrs. Hay, Mrs. Foot, Mrs. Herbert, Mrs. Kensington and Mrs. Titheridge; flowers, Mrs. H. H. Watkins, assisted by Mrs. Archibald, Mrs. Allnutt, Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Melville; books and jumble stall, Mrs. Scales, assisted by Mrs. E. Hill, Mrs. Thomson and Miss Warner; pictures and dips, girls of the school; tea room, Miss Macdonald, the staff and senior girls; competitions, Mrs. G. H. Matthews; sideshows, Mr. Bransden and Mr. Ramband; picture gallery, Mrs. Chandler; ping-pong tables, Mr. G. H. Matthews; plain work, Mrs. Mcßride and Mrs. Goodwin, assisted by Mrs. Heighway, Mrs. Entrican, Miss Matthews and Miss Koefoed; fancy work, Mrs. Munro and Mrs. Hill, assisted by Mrs. Bartrum, Mrs. Rollo, Mrs. Randall and Mrs. Hayte; aprons, Mrs. R. Warren and Mrs. Keesing, assisted by Mrs. Grimshaw, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Brinsden, Mrs. Blamires, Mrs. A. Hough and Mrs. Tasker; woollies and baby stall, Mrs. Short and Mrs. Littlejohn, assisted by. Mrs. McMurtrie, Mrs. Deighton, Mrs. Chalmers, Mrs. West, Mrs. Yarnton, Mrs. Weight, Mrs. Kennings, Mrs. Rees-George and Mrs. H. Seagar; art stall, Mrs. E. Clarke, assisted by Mrs. T. B. Arthur, Mrs. Smallfield, Mrs. Markham, Mrs. B. Schmidt, Mrs. Robins and Mrs. Kingsford; cakes, Mrs. H. C. Bennett, assisted by Mrs. Foreman, Mrs. Buckley, Mrs. Cornwell, Mrs. Higson and Mrs. Howden; sweets, Mrs. Hillier, assisted by Mrs. Howe, Mrs. Spriggs, Mrs. Griffen, Mrs. Farquharson, Mrs. Hamlin, Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Middleton. Electric and gas cooking demonstrations were given by girls under the direction of Miss V. Pair.
