MEMBERS RETIRE
HAPPY ASSOCIATIONS IN TROTTING CLUB TRIBUTE TO PRESIDENT As a result of the merger between the Auckland and Otahuhu Trotting Clubs, three committeemen of the former body retire from office, their places being filled by members from the Otahuhu committee. In his presidential address yesterday, Mr. John Rowe referred in terms of appreciation to the work done by Messrs. Eliot Davis, G. Hodgson and Wright as members of the Auckland committee. Mr. Eliot Davis said he felt some regret at relinquishing a position he had the pleasure and privilege of holding for twenty years. During his lengthy association with the chairman and members of the committee, the happiest relationship prevailed, and all had worked energetically for the furtherance of the sport. The superior position occupied by trotting today was due in great measure to Mr. Rowe and his associates. The light harness sport had grown in volume and power and it had also left its mark on the racing world. The president was entitled to a large share of the credit for the success and progress recorded. Good Fellowship The speaker was pleased to know that the committee would be strengthened by the inclusion of Otahuhu members, and trusted the same good fellowship would reign among the new committee. Mr. Davis explained that he decided to retire, as he intended shortly to go away for a time. He assured those present he would always retain an interest in the sport. Mr. G. Hodgson said he regretted severing his association with the committee, but being a young member it was his duty to retire. He thanked his associates for the many courtesies extended during his term of office, and wished the incoming committee a successful term. Mr. Wright said as the last member appointed, it was only fair he should be the first or one of the first out. It had been a pleasure to work on the committee, where good fellowship prevailed, and he hoped that the same spirit would be in evidence among the new members.
