Finishing strongly and un-
erringly, the ex-pacer was slightly in front passing the line. He ran the journey equivalent to a 2.21 mile pace, •vhich made his companion’s essay an attractive one. x Tradesman (G. Phipps) and Margaret Wallace (E. Sandall) were associated in a mile and a-half go. while the trotter went on another half-mile. Margaret Wallace held an even position during her task, and Tradesman Snished his essay strongly, having averaged approximately 1.11 for each half. * * * Great Fame (Nelson Fame—Ruby Huon) elected to go away in front of Hohora at the mile and a-quarter peg. They were well together at the end of a mile, where G. Webb shot Hohora away to finish well clear of the grey, which F. Smith did not bustle In the straight. Hohora registered a 2.25 gait. * * * J. Shaw strapped Arachne up and the mare moved with fine freedom over three circuits. was in lazy mood and could have done a lot better. * * * Dexterity, the novice trotter by The Triumph—Miss Dexter, shaped nicely while stepping over a couple of laps. He was accompanied by an Our Thorpe —Wild Pirate maiden pacer, which shows fair promise. * * * An Interesting Bout Kofkhurn (G. Paton). Master Huia (T. Grimmond), Reliance (J. Gillard) and Trustworthy (S. August) were associated in a bout over 12 furlongs. Master Huia was pacemaker for the major portion of the journey, but then gave way to Reliance and Trustworthy. Over the final stages things were interesting between this pair, but the free-legged mare finished better than Reliance, who, however, put up a useful performance. * * * Sebisca trotted over several laps at a sound clip without making any errors. The old fellow is in great heart again, and will be found giving more cheek during the season. Floraline, looking in rare trim, gave a good exhibition of the squaregaited action, registering a steady and useful performance over two miles.
He threatens to be one of the forward trotters for early fixtures. In contrast to the balanced display of Sebisca and Floraline, Gold Sovereign, who hopped away with Lucy Bell, early went in the air to lose a lot of ground. His showing came as a surprise after the splendid manner in which he has been executing his tasks. Lucy Bell paced resolutely and is on the upgrade. * * * Useful tasks were executed by Kohara, Silver Link, Rosalie’s Triumph, Army Boy, Judy Thorpe, Great Ballin and Lady Yvonne. ,
