HOLD-UP AT WAIWERA.- Unexpected difficulty in driving piles to carry the new bridge over the river estuary at Waiwera has delayed construction by nearly two months. Nearly a dozen piles splintered owing to hard rock encountered and work has progressed but little in the past three months. The bridge forms an important link in the main highway north.
