POWER BOAT RACING
CRUISERS AND OUTBOARDS ASSOCIATION’S PRIZE NIGHT A large attendance of power-boat owners, outboard racing men and visitors from the various yacht clubs was present at the annual prize distribution ceremony of the New Zealand Power Boat Association and the Outboard Division, which took place in the association’s clubhouse last evening. In welcoming the visitors the commodore, Mr. H. O. Wiles, congratulated the Outboard Division on its past season’s success. Outboard racing had proved increasingly popular and the division was fortunate in having so* many well w'ishers of the sport. The fine array of cups and trophies was something to be proud of. The commodore then unveiled a portrait of the late Mr. C. Goldsbro, who was killed in the flying-boat accident at Milford last year. --Mrs. Wiles, wife of the commodore, distributed the prizes, the chief of which were as folow:—In the Power Boat Association the most successful boat was My Girl, which accounted for four first prizes, including the Kermath Cup. She also won the Big Tree trophy for the third year in succession. Other prize-winners were Ramona, Kathryn R., Adelaide, Chrysler, Viveen, Omaro. In the Outboard Division the most important prizes were won by the. following:—Championship gold medals presented by the club captain: B class, Miss Akarana; C class, Miss Hamilton; D class, Marquette Pug; runabout class, Nymph. Challenge shield, for fastest time during season, presented by Mr. C. J. Collings: Marquette Pug; championship pennant, presented by Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, Marquette Pug; Used Car Cup, Ilcdskin; Woodruffe Cup, Blue Streak; Daidlaw Cup, Chief; “New Zealand Herald” Cup, Chief; Burns Cup, Blue Streak; Tisdall Cup, Chancit; Goldsbro Memorial Cup, Nymph; Farmers’ Cup. Miss Akarana; Captain Holmes Cup, Redskin. Other prize-winners were:—Nymph, Dady Gay, Hum Bug, Sunray, Miss Arawa, Sea Horse, Roly Hoppa, Chief, Pastime, Whoopee, Miss Marquette, Ocean Mule, Red Streak, Fleetun, Miss Tamaki, British Maid, Silvertown Kid, Galloping Goose, Nymph Junior, Miss Hamilton. Chancit, Bonzo Junior. Surprise, Kypro Kid and C.G.G. Mr. E. R. Butler, treasurer of the Outboard Division, was presented with a decanter and set of glasses as a token of appreciation of services rendered to the division during the past year.
