AIDING RETURNED MEN
WALTER LOGAN’S WRESTLING RECORD U.S.A. AND NEW ZEALAND Th© distinction of having - wrestled for the benefit of returned soldiers in two countries will be Walter Logan’s after he has met Tom Alley at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday evening. One of Logan’s most prized possessions is a letter thanking him for his services to American veterans of the Great War. It reads:—“On behalf of the Ernestine Schumann-Heink. Chapter of the Disabled American War Veterans of the World War, I want to thank you for your splendid exhibition that was given at our recent entertainment. This Chapter, as you know.
consists of nothing: but disabled soldiers and sailors from our last war. Anything that is done for them in the line of entertainment such as you have given is greatly appreciated. I, personally, thank you for all that you have done and I assure you that it was a great show.” The letter is signed by Joseph J. Eichorn, commander of the Chapter. On Saturday evening Logan will wrestle under the auspices of the Auckland Ex-Servicemen’s Union, which takes 20 per cent, of the net proceeds for the benefit of disabled and distressed returned soldiers, and thus again he will be wrestling in aid of returned soldiers, this time in New Zealand. Considering that Logan has yet to make his debut in an Auckland ring, a great deal of interest is being taken in the bout and it appears that there will bo a large crowd at His Majesty's Theatre, which has been engaged owing to the Town Hall not being available. This can be traced to a large extent to his opponent, Alley, who is one of the best draw cards ever seen in New Zealand, on account of his splendid wrestling ability. Logan has yet to prove himself, but he has a great record and apears to be a really bard exponent of the art. There should be thrills aplenty when he meets the light-heavy-weight champion. Both use speciality holds. Alley his famous crucifix and Logan a couple of combination holds that have given him many wins, and it is a question which will win.
