ELLERSLIE GALLOPS NANCY LEE AND HANNIBAL SHAPE NICELY FINALS FOR PAKURANGA Apart from sound efforts by Nancy Lee, Hannibal, Gold Money and Volimonti, there were no particularly bright features in this morning’s final gallops at Ellerslie for the Pakuranga meeting on Saturday. * * At 6.30 a.m. the grates thrown open, weather conditions being: splendid, w}th the tracks still on the soft side. The course proper (the flag’s 50 feet out) was where all fast work was staged, and No. 3 grass track was also available. ’Chasers had the opportunity of making acquaintance with the Tlllersli© steeplechase course, but only three took in the full round. Course Proper Foot Rule showed some of her undoubted pace when she beat Cat-I-Mes over five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. The latter proved of no use to the Surveyor filly, which was running on freely at tho end. Lady Court partnered Stimulant from the six furlongs post, but neither was unduly exerted in returning 1.26 1-5 for the trip. Gold Money was enshrouded in fog when she moved slowly away from the five furlongs, but she raced nicely over tho last four in 52 3-5. She had a light boy in the saddle, and could have improved a little on the gallop. After running his first three furlongs m 41. 2-5, Catoma wound up seven in 1.37 4-5. Later Eager Rose made 1.42 1-5 over tho same ground, but she was not bustled. Patutalii was ridden out to stall off Elan ore, with Kawainga following, at the end of four furlongs, in 54 3-5. Volimond In Form Volimond again infused plenty of dash into her training. She had Honiton for the five furlongs’ journey, but the former had the better of the bout on the outside of her companion. The pair made US 3-s—fairly good time. Operatic was seen to better advantage than Milvane in a . half-mile fiutter in 53. the first furlong taking An improver, Great Emblem, managed to finish on terms with Frothblower at the end of six furlongs in 1.25. They were assisted by Gay Cockade and Principal, but the former held something in reserve. Thunderstorm. Wild Country and Prince Amans took 1.2.1 1-5 for their six furlongs, the first-named finishing slightly ahead. Hannibal further showed he has very blight prospects for Saturday’s big race, disposing of six furlongs in 1.23 4-5. Bennie was the mate for tho big chestnut, but he was labouring alongside his companion, who did his work impressively, making 42 2-5 for the first three furlongs. High Pitch went over seven furlongs in 1.3 1 l-o, and did it fairly comfortably. Lost Comet and General Lu ran six furlongs, but were not timed. Fall o’ the Year gave Catulus, Marble Mount and Scaramouche a start from the mile barrier, but they wound up in tho order named to return 1.58, the initial three furlongs taking 41 3-5. Ball o the Year is a Ladies' Bracelet prospect, and should be hard to beat on Saturday. For a round Odin and Quincoma registered 2.20, there being nothing between them. , jNAuey Lee’s racing at Riccarton has left this fine sprinter very well, as indicated when she sped over four furlongs in 52 1-5. The pace was on from the start, the first furlong being clipped out in 12 1-5. Nancy Lee experiments with a mile and a-quarter journey over the week-end, but it is generally regarded as a bit too far. Desert Glow and Flying Prince were paired over five furlongs easily In 1.10, the former beating his. companion by a short margin. Sub Editor and United broke away frpm Mon Star at the three furlongs peg and ran home in 40 4-5. Number Three Grjss Spring Song and Currajong completed a round in 1.56 3-5. with the former barely in front at tho end. Burgess) took the steeplechase fences on the flat in his usual and then ran six furlongs in Roger (R. Olive) essayed the stonewall satisfactorily, to later cover six furlongs in 1.27. With the opening of the full steeplechase course three jumpers made an appearance, viz.. Marble Arch (,r. Leach), Lovely Boy (J. Mcßae), and Foxhound (H. Gilmer). The firstnamed led over the hill and completed tho essay with a fine illustration of jumping, but both Lovely Boy and Foxhound found the last fence, the stonewall, too much for them. Foxhound fell and Lovely Boy baulked, hut a second attempt proved successful.
