FANCY DRESS DANCE
BASKETBALL CLUB AT TE KOPURU A successful fancy dress dance organised and conducted by the women of the Southern Basketball Club was held at Te Kopuru on Wednesday. Misses Maud Heywood and Jean Donald, costumed as toy soldierettes. Heather Dunn, Daphne Kikys and Rhoda McKenzie, as toy soldiers, discharged the duties of masters of ceremonies. Mr. C. Leabourne’s orchestra provided the music. The following awards were made in regard to the fancy costumes:—Prettiest costume, women, Miss K. Dickson, as “Eastern Princess”; best costume, women, Miss Jean Dunn as “Hawaiian Maid”; best costume, men, Mr. D. Martin, as “Tin Soldier”: most original costume, men, Mr. M. Izzard as “Huckleberry Finn.” Mrs. A. Bassett donated the prizes. The judges were:—Mrs. A. Bassett, Miss E. Bassett, Messrs. M. Hackett and W. Smith. Others present in fancy costume included:—Mrs. C. Hughes, Gipsy; Mrs. M. Poole, Paper Flowers and Buds; Mrs. E. R. Rope, a Dude: Miss M. Greene, Early Victorian; Miss B Warmington, Balloon Pierette; Miss Phyllis Sanford, Spanish Senorita; Miss Pat Rope, Page Girl; Miss P. Whatford, Spanish Girl; Miss Betty Way, Spanish Dancer; Miss Molly Rope, Dido Lady; Miss C. Ratcliffe, Bat; Miss A thalie Love, Gentleman ; Miss Henderson, Red Cross Nurse; Miss Gwen Seymour, Russian Dancer; Miss Hazel Pennell, Superstition; Miss Alma Bryers, Gipsy Girl; Miss J. Mitchell, Pierette; Miss Helen Petey. Circus Pierette: Miss Noreen Kelly, Sailor Girl: Miss P. Passed, Columbine; Miss E. Nr. Wedding, Angel.
