TOUR OF INSPECTION
HARBOUR BOARD MEMBERS TO VISIT WORKS PORT BUILDING TENDER Alembers of the Auckland Harbour Board are to visit the various works in progress during the next fortnight. The suggestion came from Air. T. Bloodworth at the meeting of the board yesterday afternoon, and the chairman. All*. M. H. Wynyard. said that he would be happy ter make the necessary arrangements as a visit of inspection had not been made for some time past. Air. P. "W. Peate’s tender of £24,172 for the first section of the new port building was accepted. It was the lowest tender submitted. The Auckland Baseball Club was granted permission to use a block of land on the waterfront, on the city side of Luna Park, for use as a baseball ground. Members of the club stated that they were willing to clean up the area themselves. The following donations were made: Trades Hall Labour Day Celebration Committee, £5 ss; the Salvation Army self-denial fund, £25; the Flying Angel Alissions to Seamen, to go toward the proposed new institute, £lO 10s. The application of the Onehunga Borough Council to widen Esplanade Road, Onehunga, was granted. SAND FROM BEACH A letter was received from the Auckland City Council asking for permission to remove small quantities of sand and shell from the beach at Paruroa Bay, Manukau Harbour, for the purpose of using it on walks and drives approaching the beach. Although Air. A. AI. Laing opposed granting permission, the request was granted, to be terminated at the discretion of the board when it sees fit. The board’s attitude toward the establishment of a commercial airport for Auckland will be considered by the board in committee at a later date. A request for permission to use part of the old dock site as a miniature golf course was refused.
