ATHLETES IN CANADA QUARANTINED EMPIRE GAMES TEAM TORONTO, Monday. A message from Hamilton, where the Empire Games are being held, states that there has been great anxiety in the past week, owing to a reported outbreak of spinal meningitis among the Empire athletes. Fifteen Canadians are quarantined on the third floor of the Prince cf Wales School, including a prominent runner, Vernon Evelle. The doctors, fearing to rouse anxiety, kept the matter secret. Today, however, it was announced that Evelle was not suffering from meningitis, and the other 14 men will be freed from quarantine tomorrow, and it is believed that the danger is past. The Australians and New Zealanders are on the lower floors of the school, and are outside contact with those suspected of having the disease. The winners of the sixty-metres events in the Canadian Women's Championships held in conjunction with the Empire Games at Hamilton are:—Senior: Myrtle Cook, time. 7 7-10 s. Intermediate: Lilian Palmer, time, 7 9-10 s. Junior: Irene Storey, time, Rs. In the 100 metres senior. Myrtle Cook was first in 12 7-10 seconds. The 100 metres senior hurdles was won by Miss F. Bell in 16 1-10 seconds.
