EDUCATION REPORT

GREY LYNN COMMITTEE'S CRITICISM RESOLUTIONS PASSED After lengthy discussion of the report of the Education Committee, the Grey Lynn District Schools’ Committee has passed the following resolutions:—• “That the committee heartily congratulates the Minister of Education and those associated with him in the preparation of part 1 of the report on education reorganisation in New Zealand. It considers that, in the main, the proposals in section i. are admirable, but strongly objects to ‘maintenance bursaries’ being dependant upon consideration of individual cases • recommended by the senior inspector (or superintendent) of a district. With reference to section ii., it agrees that \ a unification of local control of exist- ; ing primary, secondary and technical j education is desirable, but is of opinion } that the proposal to appoint senior inspectors (or district superintendents) ex-officio secretary-treasurers of the new education boards, is utterly at variance with the expressed ‘genuine desire that the boards should occupy a dignified and important place in the new system. ’ ” “This committee .is of the opinion that wide power should be granted school committees, such power to cover ! reasonable liberty in spending its own I funds; increased capitation: more generous subsidies; two years’ office instead of one.’’
