NEWPORT (Rhode Island), Mon. At the Newport Casino tennis tourney today in the first round Harrison Coggeshall (Desnioines) defeated L. A. God free (England), 6 —3, 6 —3. Tilden passed the first round through default. In the second round, though suffering from a hip injury from last week, he defeated Ellsworth Vines (California), 9—7, 6 —2. In the second round E. R. Avery (England) defeated Harry Ply mire (California),- 6 —3, 7—5.
