MANGERE TRANSPORT
INAUGURATION OF SERVICES COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE '‘The time has come when something should be done to put Mangere on the map as far as transport is concerned. Mangere is within a stonethrow of the Onehunga trams and the time is opportune to consider the question of transport.” This statement was made by Mr. S. W. Rickards at a meeting of the Manu* kau County Council this morning in speaking to his notice of motion seeking the council’s support to the setting up of a committee to investigate the question of transport in Mangere. The council decided to give its support. Mr. Rickards in his notice of motion asked that a committee comprising the chairman, Mr F. W. Waters. the deputy-chairman, Mr. C. S. McCallum, Cr. F. Kearsley, Cr. S. W. House, the county engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, the county clerk, Mr. E. Ashcroft, and the mover, be set up to investigate and report to the council and various questions regarding transport in Mangere. TRANSPORT AREA The committee will consider the advisability of the council making application to have the Mangere Riding included in the No. 1 Transport Board area and will investigate and obtain from the Transport Board and other sources all information relating to the inauguration in the riding of a system of electric trams, trackless trams or steam bus services, the possible revenue. and the basis of possible fares. Other questions will be the - likely charge to ratepayers for guaranteeing to the Transport Board interest on capital cost and guarantee against losses, the benefits likely to be derived by the ratepayers, the- riding and county generally, and the obtaining of other information the committee might consider necessary.
