MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
On receipt of a letter from the Otahuhu Borough Council, at last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, asking for an expression of opinion regarding tl;e removal of tho saleyards from Westfield, the chairman said that any alteration would not relieve the situation as far as Manurewa was concerned. It was decided that no action be taken. It was decided to donate £1 to the Great South Road Beautifying Society for the purpose of beautifying the triangular reserve on the Great South Road at Takanini.
On receipt of a petition from 15 ratepayers, representing 23 school children, asking that a footpath be formed along the Great South Road from Mahia Road to the overhead railway bridge, a distance of 32 chains, Messrs. Galalier and Whyte said they had counted 20 children walking on the concrete strip on the Great South Road, where a footpath was already formed. They thought that the formation of any further paths would be a waste of money. The petition was referred to the works committee.
A deputation representing the Manurewa branch of the New Zealand Labour Party waited on the board and asked that particulars be supplied of tho steps necessary to have a poll taken to have the rating system altered from tho capital value to the unimproved value. The clerk supplied tho deputation with, the necessary particulars. He said it was necessary to have the names of 69 ratepayers attached to a petition.
