BOY JUMPS TO DEATH
LEAP INTO BOILING POOL FATALITY AT OHINEMUTU From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA, Monday. Fatal Injuries were received by a five-year-old Maori boy, Neti Mokopuna, when in the course of a game he plunged into a boiling pool. Some children were playing in the vicinity of St. Faith’s (Anglican) Church at Ohinemutu on Saturday afternoon. ' Neti, pursued by his mates, ran into the tea-tree at the back of Whakaturia (a Maori eating-house) nearby. In liis excitement, he did not notice a boiling pool and jumped right into it, sinking almost to the chin. He was extricated, shockingly scalded, and taken to the King George V. Hospital, where he died yesterday morning. The boy’s brother met his death, in a similar fashion, about 18 months ago. The relatives are well known in Ohinemutu, and much sympathy has been extended to them. A tangi is in progress, being largely attended by Maoris from the pa and elsewhere.
