TRANSHIPPING MAILS
WILL DEPEND ON WEATHER JPi'ess Association, WELLINGTON, Today. When the Tahiti left Sydney she had on board a quantity of mail from Australia for America and Britain, but how much is not known locally. At Wellington the vessel took on 699 bags of mail and 111 parcel receptacles from New Zealand. Whether it will be possible to tranship much or any of this mail to the rescue ships in attendance is not known. The work would have to be done by boats and this will present many difficulties. Much will depend on the condition of the Tahiti and on the state of the weather. The mail is for Great Britain and Europe, North and South America, Tahiti and the Cook Islands. Auckland sent 199 bags of mail on the Tahiti, half of which is for Great Britain. Forty bags were for the United States and 15 for Canada. The ship has 500 tons of mixed cargo on board. •
