MEETING A CRISIS
AUSTRALIA MUST HAVE COMMON POLICY APPEAL FOR UNITY Reed. 11.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The Premier, Mr. T. R. Bavin, made an appeal for Federal and State cooperation for solving Australia’s financial problems. It is Imperative, he said, if tlie present crisis is to be met, that a definite binding agreement should be arrived at by the Governments of the Com monwealth and the States for the adoption of a common policy. “In a matter so vital to Australia, I cannot refrain from expressing the hope that Mr. Scullin will not take his departure for the Imperial Conference until definite and effective arrangements have been made for meeting the situation,” he said. "There is no need for panic and no reason to doubt that our difficulties can be met and overcome.” A financial conference of Prime Ministers and State Treasurers is being held at Melbourne on Monday. REDUCED WAGES RAILWAYMEN AFFECTED Reed. 10.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The New South Wales and Victoria Railway Commissioners have lodged applications before the Federal Arbitration Court for a variation of the existing Federal awards and for reduction in wages. About 30.000 men in New South Wales are affected.
