PERFECT ORCHESTRATION
Of late considerable prominence has been given to the young conductor John Barbirolli, who now directs Elgar’s "Introduction and Allegro for Strings" Op. 47, played by his chamber orchestra—a very attractive and melodious work, composed twenty-five years ago. and inspired bv a " song heard in the valley of Wye. I cannot conceive any musical person failing te be thrilled by the spaciousness and loftiness of these ' ov ® l , 3, tunes,” is Barbirolli’s comment on this work, which is written for solo quartet wifh string orchestra. The fine formanee of the orchestra is enhanced by the clearness of the recording (H.M.V.. C 1634-95.)
