JF it takes all kinds to make a world, | then it goes without saying that it takes all kinds of broadcast programmes Lo satisfy them, and even by broadcasting the best music in the world everyone cannot be pleased. Listeners may be divided into several definite classes, all of which have different tastes, and even iu each class the tastes of the various listeners differ in an infinite variety of ways. Lovers of Mendelssohn, for instance, may not agree with Tehaikowsky’s idea of harmony, many prefer Irving Berlin, and so on through the musical gamut. j Comments, laudatory and otherwise, j have continued to pour into the main broadcasting stations of the Dominion ever since their establishment. Some object that too much jazz is being put over the air and others claim that the director is catering only for the musical “highbrow.” In radio, as in everything else, it is the aim of the controlling company to “give the public what it wants,” but it has long been realised that it is impossible to please everybody. Programme organisers have always endeavoured to arrange concerts which they believe will bo appreciated by the majority of listeners, but have here been hampered by the lack of talent or of variety of talent offering Again, attempting to pander to public taste is a difficult business.
