CHAMBER MUSIC
INCREASED ACTIVITY TWO ORGANISATIONS One of the most encouraging signs in the music life of Auckland during the past few seasons has been the development of chamber music. Formerly what activity there has been in this enjoyable and very instructive form of music has been confined mostly to private performances by musicians getting together for mutual pleasure. With the formation of the Auckland Trio and the Chamber Music Society this pleasure has now been extended to the public. The popularity of this form of music with the music lovers of Auckland was shown when Mr. Cyril Towsey organised the Auckland Trio in which he had the assistance of Miss I. Bosworth (violinist) and Miss Molly Wright (cello). Concerts were given, and a small price for reservations was charged. Jt was the success that attended these that finally led to the formation of the Auckland Chamber Music Society at whose first concert the Auckland Trio was pleased to assist. For its first chairman the society made a wise choice in the appointment of Mr. R. E. Fenton, who has for a long timet been associated with musical activities in Auckland. Mr. Fenton’s name is one that has been closely associated with music in Auckland, his father being one of the founders of the Auckland Choral Society. ,
Several excellent concerts have been given by this latest addition to the ranks of the musical societies which, it is hoped, tvill long continue to receive the support necessary to enable it to present the works of the tone poets in this very agreeable form.
