CRUSADERS’ MARCH
THE SYMBOLS OF OFFICE A stately and picturesque procession preceded the annual service of the Eistoe Tritton conclave of the Order of Crusaders at Hove (England) Parish Church, recently. The order was founded after the war to preserve the spirit of comradeship and brotherhood that existed in the trenches, and has as its principles self-sacrifice, service, loyalty and brotherhood. Motorists stopped their cars to watch as the crusaders, in robes of green, brown, silver grey and blue inarched with arms folded through the sunlit streets to church. From the breast of each gleamed a scarlet cross The sword-bearers held their swords erect in the sunlight, with pennants fluttering. Then came the officers of the order, each carrying the symbols of his office —the keeper of the door with his keys, the hospitaller carrying his cup, the abbot with a Bible, the scribe with a book of remembrance and the seneschal with his lamp.
