CHEAPER SUGAR

REDUCTION OF 10/- A TON THIRD THIS YEAR A further reduction in the wholesale price of sugar, the third this year, is announced by the Colonial Sugar Company. The drop, which is at the rate of 10s a ton. is effective from today. The new rates relate to all grades of raw and refined sugar, including tablet and icing sugar. The price will now be £lB a ton for 1A sugar, the popular table grade, £23 a ton for tablet sugar in 561 b. containers, and £2S in 21b. cartons, and £22 a ton for icing sugar. The present price for 3A sugar is the lowest for about 15 years. During the war and post-war years prices rose steadily, reaching the peak in July, 1920, when tlie quotation was £47 10s. Until November, 1921. the higli price was maintained, but there followed a. sharp drop to £35 10s. In the following years there was a fluctuation of prices, with a general downward trend. The rate rose from £27

15s in 1922 to £35 in 1924, only to be followed by a series of reductions to as low as £22 in November. 1925. The rate rose again in the following

year, reaching £25 10s by December, but since that date the downward tendency has been steadily resumed.
