SPECIAL RACE MEETING

ROTORUA BOROUGH’S REQUEST MINISTER SYMPATHETIC Special to THE SUN ROTORUA, Today. If no interference with the racing fixtures is caused thereby, then the Rotorua Racing Club will probably get a permit for a special race meeting during the coming season. At this week’s ordinary meeting of tho Rotorua Borough Council, a letter was received from the secretary of the Rotorua Racing Club, stating that his executive would be quite willing to allow the use of the Arawa Park racecourse for a special race meeting, in order to assist a mammoth queen carnival which is to be held at Rotorua during the coming season, for the purpose of raising funds for the development and beautifying of the lake front.

The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson/ advised that the Internal Affairs Department had been approached in regard to the matter and that the Minister had been impressed with the case made out by the civic authorities. 1-Ie had assured him that provided no interference with the racing calendar ensued, then he would favourably consider the request
