AUCKLAND COMPETITION CHEAP FARES IN VOGUE From Our Oicn Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. There is a taxi war on in Hamilton and the public as a resuit will benefii from the dras'tic cut in fares which the local tax-drivers have had to make n cope with competition from a small contingent of Auckland cabs that com menced operations about a month ago While this war is on, a taxi will v.r longer be the rare luxury it was some weeks ago. The new scale of charges will be 3 = for the first mile, and 6d for every ad ditional half mile. Nine Hamilton taximen, who hav.: introduced the new scale of fares term themselves “White Tops,” and it is anticipated that others will come intc the scheme. .
