FEARS FOR TREATY

CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER URGED TO LEAVE IT TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA Reed. 9.5 a.m. VANCOUVER, Thurs.

A huge delegation of British Columbian manufacturers urged the Premier, Mr. S. F. Tolmie to impress upon the'Prime Minister, Mr. R. B. Bennett, that the Australian treaty, particularly those portions regarding salmon, lumber and paper, be left undisturbed. A public announcement by Mr. Bennett was demanded because fears are being expressed in Australia that the treaty’s very existence is imperilled. It was claimed that any interference with the treaty regarding the products specified would be disastrous to British Columbia and members of the deputation declared that Australian paper purchasers are holding up orders while awaiting Mr. Bennett’s tariff decisions.

Mr. Tolmie promised to confer with Mr. Bennett.
