Hunt, was disqualified foi* life, after being caught with a battery at the Eagle Farm racecourse. A stipendiary steward was advised that the rider intended using a battery on Kitty Paddington in the last race, so he waited until Hunt was at the post in an earlier race.

He then searched his locker and found a battery among his clothes. The stewards stayed their hands until Hunt was weighed out and about to mount Kitty Paddington and then ordered him to the stewards’ room, where he confessed that he intended using the battery. He stated the idea was his own and his owner or trainer had no knowledge of his intention. Kitty Paddington is owned by one of the best knoWn of Queensland’s racing men, Mr. Darcy Winten.
