TRAMWAYS AND SERVICE

The members of the Transport Board are no doubt endeavouring to give us an efficient tramway service; but they are going a strange way about it. Though there are larger numbers of passengers on trams which reach the City about eight o’clock in the evening* nothing reasonable seems to be done to cope with this increase, at least so far as trams approaching town through Newmarket are concerned. On two recent evenings 1 have missed a tram in Newmarket at 7.40. and have had to wait slightly more than 10 minutes for another, making me late for an eight o’clock appointment in Queen Street. An anomaly exists, however- On both those occasions, at 7.51. live trams arrived, completely filling Broadway. They consisted, as far as I can remember, of one Anzae Avenue car, two Town Hall cars and two Parnell—all of which would reach the City some time after five past eight. UPSET.

This complaint was referred to the Transport Board’s traffic superintendent, who said that it happened sometimes that cars were delayed. However, unless a delay had occurred, no one would have to wait 10 minutes in Newmarket for a car at the time mentioned. Three routes.
