PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING FIRST DAY’S PLAY The Auckland Provincial Badminton championships were started at the Scots Hall yester- i day. There was a good attendance and some very fine games were witnessed. The New Zealand title-holder. .1. Southon, was given a bad fright by o. Ernst in the first round of the men’s singles. Ernst gave the champion a good go, and Southon took three sets before he finally vanquished Ernst. The sensation of the day was the defeat of Miss Ellett, Dominion women’s champion, by Miss Marjorie Macfarlane irj a great game. Tho scores, 14 —13. 13—14. 14—13, indicate the „ trend of the play, and congratulations were showered on Miss Macfarlane on her win.
