CONCERT AT ONEHUNGA
CHARITABLE TRAMWAYMEN Liberal support was accorded tlie efforts of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Tramway Choir to alleviate the prevailing distress by organising a charity concert last evening in the Foresters’ Theatre, Onehunga. —* / The we 11 -fe ala peed choir of 25 voices under the cqnductorship of Mr. Duncan Black gave, evidence of careful training, and their singing of the selections “O'er the Downs,” “Comrades’ Song of Hope,” “Sweet and Low,” and “Soldiers’ Chorus” was heartily applauded. Solos were sung by Miss Rattray, Miss H. Christie, Mr. F. W. Archibald and Mr. F. Simpson. Miss Thelma Oallaher. L.A.8., and Miss Wynne Simpson contributed pianoforte solos, Mr. Alan McSkimming a pleasing monolgue, while Messrs. Joe Halford and AY. Beecham were repeatedly encored for their humorous character songs. Mr. D. J. Williams, who acted as stage manager, thanked the audience on behalf of the society for its liberal support of a worthy cause, and expressed his appreciation of the gratuitous assistance rendered by the tram way men. Miss Thelma Gallaher, L.A.8.. and Messrs. W. Neville? and F. Simms played the accompaniments. At the conclusion of the musical programme the hall was cleared for dancing to the music of Mr. E. Tyne’s jazz band, whose services were also given gratuitously. The Onehunga Citizens’ Band, under Bandmaster Leatherby, played several selections in Queen Street prior to the commencement of the concert.
