PREPARING FOR EPSOM FIXTURE
AFFAIRS AT OTAHUHU The grass track at Otahuhu is again open for training operations, and during the last few days it has been in keen demand, although there has been no attempt on the part of trainers to test their charges against the watch. Most of the candidates are well forward, and will, with a few winding up tasks, be in readiness at the end of the month. Well-conditioned Pacer Great Ballin, who has been kept steadily going: since the Auckland winter fixture, is in rare buckle, and should strip one of the fittest horses at the forthcoming meeting. Ballin’s son has done well for Garth Robertson, and the indications are that he will meet with further success. Fine Free-legged Mare Ever since showing a return to her better form at the Epsom June fixture, Trustworthy has demonstrated an interest in her work. Without the aid of the straps she is hitting out boldly in her track essays, and T. Brady’s Worthy Bond representative will be one of the early Auckland winners for the new season. Trot May Continue S. August had a wonderful trot last season with Stanmoor, and the sturdy pacer won at all distances. That he is ready to add further to his laurels is quite evident by the brisk manner
in which the Mangere-trained gelding is executing his duties. While his main successes ha ve been over sprint journeys, Stanmoor has proved ability to go a good two miles. Going Smoothly . George Mitchell has Rady Yvonne going along very smoothly in her work, and in her latest track efforts the daughter of Our Thorpe has paced in solid style. The mare will be useful in her class later on. Still Goirg Strong The trotter Gold Sovereign is working in great style for S. M. August, and he will be in good order for spring racing. The son of Gold Bell is a consistent customer, but he always does his best when the footing is on the firm side. Team in Nice Condition Sid Groat has a good string to attend to. but this does not deter the painstaking trainer from putting the right condition on. Kohara is fast
coming into proper shape, while the trotter Floraline is very forward. Realty is not being bustled, but the big pacer will be ready with a few sharp essays. Queen's Bond and Lucy Bell are doing all that is asked of them in pleasing fashion, while the disappointing Black Ballin is working freely.
Kingscfere Shaping Well W. Lincoln is keeping Kingsclere up to the mark, and the Advance gelding is doing his allotments in a satisfactory style. He shows signs of staying on better than formerly, and may be a winner over a journey this season. The same trainer has the trotter Togo’s Promise on the active list again, but so far bis tasks have been of the lenient order.
