MANAWATU CLUB
YEAR S OPERATIONS LOSS ON FIRST WINTER MEETING The fiftieth annual report of the Manawatu Racing Club states that the totalisator turnover for the year amounted to £ 173.,324, showing a very satisfactory increase on the previous year of £3 7,093. this being attributed to the fine weather experienced at both the summer and autumn meetings. The income and expenditure account showed a credit for the year’s working of £2,328, and after writing off £2,273 for depreciation, the balance of £55 had been added to accumulated funds. During the year the committee completed an agreement with the Manawatu Hunt Club, whereby the club takes over the totalisator licence formerly held by the Hunt Club. The first meeting under the arrangement was held recently, the totalisator licence for the 3 929-30 season being used on July 31 and the licence for the 1930-31 season on August 2, thus making a two-days fixture. Owing to the severe financial depression at present existing, the returns for the meeting were less than anticipated, and a loss on the meeting would be shown. The committee records with great regret the death of the late Mr. J. M. Johnston, who had been secretary Ibf the club for 28 years. Mr. Johnston’s services were of great benefit to the club, and lie was responsible for the beautiful course and grounds at Awapuni. YOUNGSTER SOLD
