SCOW OVERLOADED
MASTER FINED £3 “It had qualified for the submarine class,” sairl Mr. V. Hubble, who prosecuted at the Police Court today when L. Hook was charged with overloading the scow Tuahine. Hook conducted his defence and pleaded not guilty. According to an inspector of ships, the scow was inspected on July 2 and was G£ inches lower in the water on one side than was legal and Zh inches on the other side. The master did noi give a proper explanation. Hook said the mate of the scow had not removed the rags from the limber holes after fixing the engines, 1 1 li the result that the water could not get out of the partitions. This was the cause of the trouble. He was fined £3 and costs, 13s.
