For the first time in his tours of the Dominion when he conceded starts to local amateurs the professional billiards player, Clark McConachy, suffered a defeat last evening. lie played an exhibition match of 1,000 points, conceding Shanks, the Wellington provincial amateur champion, 600 points’ start. Shanks reached J ,000 when McConachy was 959. Shanks’s breaks were 66, 53, 45, 34, 29, ,21 and 26 unfinished. MeConachy’s were 158, 14S, 127, 89 71, 59, 51, 45, 40.
