“NO JURISDICTION"
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ROAD THROUGH PANMURE ROAD BOARD’S DISCLAIMER That the Panmure Township Road Board had no jurisdiction over the road through Panmure, between the concrete and the bridge, was pointed out in a letter received from the Panmure Road Board at la.st evening’s meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association. Tho letter was in reply to a complaint- from the A.A.A. in connection with the bad state of the road. “The Panmure Road Board had been keeping the road in repair for the past two years, the letter stated. When application was made to have it declared a. main highway it was disepvcred that the road was gazetted as being under the control of the Mount Wellington Road Board “for the past 40 or 50 years.” The Main Highways Board had informed the Panmure Town Board that any subsidy in connection with the road would be paid to .the Mount Wellington Road Board. In addition, the Panmure Board had obtained legal advice to the effect that any more money spent by them on the road would be illegal. The board bad therefore decided to have nothing more to do with it. The letter was received, Mr. M. H. W.vnyard stating that he was arranging a conference between the two local bodies with the object of getting some finality in the matter.
