EXECUTIVE MEETING On Monday afternoon the executive committee of the Society for the Pro- ) tectiop of Women and Children met at j the society's rooms, tlie Rev. W. Jellie ! presiding. j A steady increase in the work was ] shown by the reports of the secretary i and inspector, 52 new cases haying 1
been dealt with during the month, as compared with 29 for the corresponding month last year. Of these cases, 20 dealt with trouble between husbands and wives, a number having been sent to the society’s solicitors. There were 369 office interviews', and the inspector made 122 visits to homes, and 3 2 attendances at court during the month.
Indignation was expressed that the Government should have considered it necessary t 6 cut out the small grant of £IOO which the society has received lor many j-ears. This is much to be regretted, as it is felt that the society very materially helps the Government. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get the monetary assistance required for the administration of the society's work, and it was decided to send a letter of protest to the Minister.
