SAILORS’ HOME COUNCIL

From correspondence submitted at a meeting of the Sailors’ Home Council last evening it was reported that a special donation of £ 500 had been received from the Auckland Savings Bank. The sum of £312 10s was received on account of a legacy of £ 500 from the estate of the late Mrs. Duffus Both sums were set aside for the endowment fund, only the interest being available for general purposes. It was reported that nearly 2,000 circular letters had been issued appealing for help to relieve distress on the waterfront, which has been considerable during the past winter.
