VERSATILE TENOR
Like His great forerunner Enrico Caruso, Fernando Autori, the Italian singer, is a brilliant caricaturist as well as an operatic star. Recently an exhibition of his drawings arranged in the Grand Staircase leading to the foyer at Covent Garden attracted considerable attention. The exhibition included witty caricatures of such wellknown characters as the Prime Minister, Mr. Snowden, Mr. Bernard Shaw and Mussolini.
FERNANDO AUTORI By Himself On the occasion of the recent revival of “Marta,” Signor Autori was called upon, at a few hours’ notice, to take the part of Tristano in the place of Signor Tomei, who was suffering from an indisposition. Autori, who was absolutely unfamiliar with this opera, began to study the part at three o’clock in the afternoon and had mastered it by seven o’clock. The performance went through without a hitch, and Autori scored a conspicuous success.
