The visitors ha 1 the better of the first spell, in which : play at the start was ragged. Hawke’s Bay secured most of the ball and the backs were frequently sent away in passing rushes which generally lacked penetration, the Otago tackling being good. In the second spell Otago secured a bigger share of the ball and the last half hour was crowded with spectacular incidents. The visiting forwards were much heavier than Otago, but toward tb*' end became sluggish, Otago's greater pace winning the match. Lindsay played a fine game at fullback for Otago and Bradanovich was clever on attack. The forwards an even lot. None of the visiting backs was outstanding. Wilson, C. Brownlie and Campbell were the best of the forwards. CHALLENGE FOR SHIELD Press Association WELLINGTON. Saturday.
