SURFACING DELAYED
HAMILTON-NGARUAWAHIA ROAD NO WORK TILL NEXT SEASON From Our Own Correspondent TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. Owing to hitches in the arrangements, there is little prospect of the surfacing of the Great South Road between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia being carried out this summer. From a discussion at the Waipa County' Council meeting on Monday, it appears that one of the principal delays is with the Public Works Department officers, who insist on a complete specification for the whole scheme affecting 32 miles within the county, before application is made to the Loans Board, which requires certain formalities before the county ratepayers can be asked to sanction the raising of loan moneys.
It was understood that reconstruction work can be proceeded with, also metalling at a later stage, so that the actual surfacing can be undertaken during the following summer.
