OLD BRIDGES SAVED

Two hundred and fifty works of historic interest are added in the new list of ancient monuments in Britain scheduled for preservation by the Commissioners of Works to the 2,500 already protected (says the “Daily Mail”). They include picturesque old bridges, ruined castles, village crosses, tithe barns, and Roman camps. The famous Dunkery Beacon, in Somerset, is now safe.

The bridges of chief importance arc tho one over the Dee at Chester: Exe Bridge, Exeter; the Pack Horse Bridge, Sutton, Bedfordshire; the Ludford Bridge, Shropshire; the Darley Bridge, Derbyshire; and the Wilton Bridge, Ross, Herefordshire.
