KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAM
SKULL FRACTURED BY FALL Press Association "WELLINGTON, Tuesday. As a consequence of what appeared to be a minor accident in Moxham Avenue shortly before nine o’clock on Monday evening, Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Laly died at her sister’s house, Stoke Street, Newtown, this morning. Mrs. Daly left her son’s confectionery store in the business section of Moxham Avenue about 8.45 p.m., and walked across the road, intending to catch a tram. At that moment a Miramar tram, which was pulling up at the stop, struck Mrs. Daly. She fell to the ground, and struck her head on the road. She was conscious when she was picked up, and at first it was not thought that she was injured. It was subsequently discovered that she had suffered a fracture at the base of the skull. After being attended by doctors, Mrs. Daly was taken by an ambulance to the home of her sister, Mrs. J. G. Hand. Toward midnight her condition became worse, and she <died between three and four o’clock. Mrs. Daly was a widow, aged 65 years.
