“PRESS PROPAGANDA”

SOVIET DUMPING OF FOOD INTO BRITAIN

QUESTION IN THE HOUSE

THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Tuesday. “Press propaganda!” was the cry that came from the Labour benches in the House of Representatives this afternoon when Mr. A. M. Samuel (Reform —Thames) addressed an urgent question to the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, on the subject of the activities of the Soviet io. dumping food —particularly bacon, butter and eggs—into Great Britain, as suggested by an extract from the London “Daily Mail” as a footnote to a cable this morning concerning the Soviet’s advocacy of the culture of the pig as a means of saving things on the meat production front. Mr. Samuel quoted the cable and the extract from the “Daily Mail,” and asked if the Prime Minister would take action in the matter at the Imperial Conference, because the question concerned the Dominions vitally. The Prime Minister said he would be very pleased indeed to go into the question. It affected the Dominion and, judging from the reports of “The Times” Riga correspondent and the "Daily Mail,” things were going to be done on a big scale. The leader of the Labour Party, Mr. H. E. Holland: You couldn’t take that as less than propaganda, could 3'ou ? Mr. P. B'raser (Wellington Central): It’s Press propaganda. Another Labour member: Pure propaganda.
