UNPROVOKED ASSAULT

FIJIAN SEAMAN FINED Assaulting another man without provocation cost William Andrew Keane £2, or seven days, at the Police Court today. Keane, a Fijian seaman, aged 30, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting James Felix Patterson yesterday. “The incident occurred in a Queen Street hotel about 4 p.m. yesterday,” said Sub-Inspector Shanahan. “Accused struck Patterson without provocation and when the assaulted man asked why he had been struck, Keane’s only answer was to hit him twice more. Keane has no previous convictions.” Mr. Hunt fined Keane £2 and fixed default at seven days.
