NEWS OF LAUNCH
BROTHERS COMMUNICATE WITH AUCKLAND HAD ENGINE TROUBLE The launch Nicola, with Messrs. K. and A. McCollum, of Thames, as crew, which was reported to the Devonport police as missing, is safe. The McCollum brothers, who are aged 26 and 22, left Ivaiaua on the Firth of Thames at 4.30 a.m. on Thursday, having hired the vessel from Mr. G. Keith, of Kaiaua, for a fishing excursion. Engine trouble developed and the boat was anchored about three miles from Duder’s Bay on Thursday afternoon. The sea was calm and the two men did not try to make Duder’s Bay although a small sail was carried. The launch put in to Duder's Bay on Saturday morning, when engine trouble again occurred and the two brothers towed the boat with its dinghy on to the beach.
Calling at a store to buy oil last evening, they sent a message to Mr. and Mrs. E. Laing, of Hastings Parade, Devonport. who had been expecting them on Thursday afternoon.
