PERSONAL. —Captain W. S. Hodgson, who is well known in the Dominion, which he last visited about three years ago as chief officer of the Athenic, is in command of the lonic, which is due at Auckland on August 25 from London.

THE TAHITI.—The Royal Mail liner Tahiti is scheduled to sail from Wellington at 3 o’clock this afternoon for San Francisco in continuation of her voyage from Sydney.

WAIPAHI WITH FRUIT. —An arrival early this afternoon was the Union Company's fruit steamer Waipahi from the Cook Islands with a cargo of bananas and tomatoes. She berthed at lving s W harf to unload.

KARTIGI SAILS 10 P.M.—The Kartigi is to be dispatched at 10 o’clock tonight for Portland, Wellington and Lyttelton to complete putting out her general cargo from Melbourne, Devonport (Tasmania) and Newcastle.

WAIHEMO DOCKED. —The Union Company’s cargo steamer Waihemo docked this morning for cleaning, painting and inspection in connection with her overhaul and survey. She is *to sail on Saturday for Vancouver direct and will load Pacific Coast cargo for New Zealand.

WAIOTAPU SAILS TOMORROW. —The Union Company advises that the transpacific cargo steamer Waiotapu is to sail at 5 p.m. tomorrow for Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle to complete discharge of her general cargo from Pacific Coast ports.

MAKURA LEAVES SAN FRANCISCO. —Cabled advice has been received by the Union Company that the R.M.S. Makura left San Francisco last Wednesday for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney. She is due at Wellington on August 25.

ULIMAROA AT SYDNEY.—The Hud-dart-Parker Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Ulimaroa arrived at Sydney at 6 o’clock this morning from Wellington. She is to leave Sydney on Friday for Auckland, and is due here next Tuesday morning.

THE CITY OF LYONS. —The A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer City of Lyons is reported to have reached Colon last Saturday en route from New York to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is scheduled to reach Auckland about September 3.

MAMILIUS TO LOAD. —The Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Mamilius is scheduled to reach Bluff from Australia on August 25, to commence loading in New Zealand for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow. Her loading ports are Bluff, Port Chalmers, Timaru, Lyttelton, New Plj’mouth, Wanganui, and Wellington. She is to be dispatched from Wellington for London, via Montevideo, on September 16.

PORT ALMA TO BERTH.—Heather, Roberton, Limited, advises that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line vessel Port Alma, now at the Motuihi powder grounds unloading explosives, is expected to come into port and berth at Prince's Wharf at about 5 o’clock this evening to discharge about 4,000 tons of general merchandise from London. On Saturday afternoon she is to sail for Wellington and Napier to complete unloading.

FERNWOOD FROM MEXICO.—The Norwegian motor-ship Fermvood is reported to have left New Orleans last Tuesday for New Zealand. The vessel has asphalt from Tampico, and general cargo from other ports in the Gulf of Mexico, for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Wanganui, Sydney, and Melbourne. She is expect aid to reach Auckland about the middle of September. Henderson and Macfarlane, Ltd., is the local agent.

PORT GISBORNE’S LOADING.—The Commonwealth and Dominion Line motorship Port Gisborne is due at Bluff -tomorrow from Launceston, to commence loading for London. The vessel will load also at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Waikokopu, Gisborne, and Auckland, where she is due about September 2. She is to be despatched from Auckland on September 6 for London, via Panama. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., is the local agent.

MIDDLESEX DUE FRIDAY. According to her wireless advice the Federal steamer Middlesex is due in port on Friday afternoon from Liverpool. The vessel is laden with general merchandise from West Coast United Kingdom ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Her local agent is the New Zealand Shipping Company.

THE LADY LEWIS.—An arrival at Auckland this morning was the Lady Lewis, from Nauru Island,, with approximately 7,500 tons of phosphate for discharge here and Wanganui. Fine weather was experienced throughout the trip, and good time was made. The vessel is expected to leave for ‘Wanganui tomorrow. Captain G. CANADIAN CRUISER FROM MONTREAL.—Carrying approximately 6,000 tons of general cargo, the Canadian National Steam Ship's steamer arrived from Alontreal this morning and berthed at Prince’s Wharf. The vessel left Alontreal on June 2S, and experienced a comparatively fine trip except for the last ten days, when heavy weather was encountered. At times only four knots were made, but in spite of tms. the boat was not compelled to heave to. After discharging the local portion of her cargo, she will proceed to "Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Captain J. Sears is in command, and with him are the following officers: Chief officer. Air. TILBURY LANDING STAGE—Tfce new Tilbury passenger landing stage to the River Thames is proving a great success. As an instance of what can be done, four liners with passengers, baggage and mail were dispatched on Juue 12. This was done in record time. Tv: vessels left for South America and Sooth Africa, and two arrived from Sweden and South America. The best performance was in the case of the Avelona Star, which had its passengers and baggage landed and was able to clear from the stage within 25 minutes of arrival, a record for the Port of London.
