NEW REGENT
“JOURNEY’S END” The perfect picture that we have been waiting for is here. It is “Journey’s End,” now at the Regent Theatre, with drama so powerful that it takes your heart out, tears it to bits and gives it back to you with an understanding of this human clay called “man” that you never had before and will never forget or regret. “Journey’s End” without a woman in it, yet fraught with the romance of adventure, daring, death; crammed to overflowing with man’s love for man, for peace, for home —spectacular, not in the way of stupendous sets, but in splendid deeds done by splendid men. Oh, what a masterpiece is “Journey’s End”—masterly on the part of its author, R. C. Sherriff; on the part of its adapter, Joseph Moncure March, who has kept it faithful; on the part of James Whale, the director, and George Pearson, who supervised; and on the part of the cast. TiffanyGainsborough produced it by arrangement with Maurice Browne, and R.C.A. Photophone recorded. It is impossible to write the usual sort of criticism of “Journey’s End.” It is as far above that sort of thing as the sort of human emotions its restrained sequences portray are above our humdrum existence. There is no good in hurling superlatives at it, for it has risen above them. Colin Clive appears as Captain Stanhope. and David Manners as young Raleigh. The other parts are equally well filled.
Excellent talkie supports complete the programme.
